Adobe Photoshop Tips and Tricks for 2026

04 March 2026  ·  CIMT Media Blog

Adobe Photoshop in 2026 is more powerful than ever, with AI-powered tools alongside the classic features professionals have relied on for decades. Here are the tips that will immediately improve your workflow.

Use Smart Objects — Always

Never place an image directly into a Photoshop document. Right-click the layer → Convert to Smart Object first. Smart Objects preserve original file quality regardless of how many times you resize, rotate, or apply filters. Scaling down and back up maintains sharpness — impossible with rasterised layers.

Essential Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Ctrl+J: Duplicate layer
  • Ctrl+Alt+Z: Multiple undo steps
  • [ ] brackets: Increase/decrease brush size
  • Shift+click layer mask: Disable mask temporarily
  • Ctrl+Shift+Alt+E: Stamp visible (merge all to new layer non-destructively)

Generative Fill (AI) in 2026

Photoshop's Generative Fill (powered by Adobe Firefly) can extend backgrounds, remove objects, and fill selected areas with AI-generated content that matches the scene. For product photography and portrait retouching, this tool saves significant time.

Non-Destructive Workflow

Always edit on duplicate layers or through Adjustment Layers — Curves, Hue/Saturation, Levels. Adjustment layers are non-destructive and can be toggled, modified, or deleted at any time without affecting the original image.

CIMT's Graphic Design Mastery Program in Kochi covers professional Photoshop workflows from fundamentals to advanced techniques.
