In the media industry, your portfolio is more important than any degree or certificate. Kerala employers — whether a wedding studio, agency, or production house — make hiring decisions based almost entirely on the quality of your work samples. Here is how to build one that gets interviews.
Quality Over Quantity
Show 10 exceptional pieces rather than 40 average ones. Every weak sample drags down the perception of the strong ones. Ruthlessly edit your portfolio — show only work you are proud to defend in an interview. If you only have 5 strong pieces, show 5.
What Each Media Specialisation Needs
- Photographers: 20–30 images across wedding, portrait, commercial. One strong genre with variety
- Video editors: 1 wedding highlight reel (3–5 min), 1 corporate/brand video, 1 short social media reel. Total under 12 minutes
- Graphic designers: 5–8 projects — logo, brand identity, social media campaign, wedding album, advertising layout. Show the problem and the solution
Where to Host It
Photographers: Instagram + a free Pixieset or SmugMug gallery. Video editors: YouTube (unlisted playlist) or Vimeo. Graphic designers: Behance is the professional standard — every hiring creative director checks Behance. All media professionals should have an Instagram profile curated specifically for professional work.
