Wedding album design is one of the most in-demand graphic design skills in Kerala. With Kerala's massive wedding photography industry, skilled album designers find consistent freelance and studio work. Here is how to design professionally in Photoshop.
Setting Up Your Document
A standard Kerala wedding album is 12×36 inches (spread) at 300 DPI, RGB colour mode. Create a new Photoshop document at these dimensions. Set 0.5-inch bleed on all edges to avoid white edges during print trimming.
Building Your Layout Grid
Use Photoshop's Guide feature (View → Guides) to create a consistent grid. A typical spread has one large hero image and 2–4 supporting images. Leave white (or themed background) space for breathing room — overcrowded albums feel claustrophobic.
Colour Theme and Typography
Extract 2–3 dominant colours from the wedding decor using the Eyedropper tool. Use these as background accents and text colours. Stick to one serif font for names/titles (Cormorant Garamond, Playfair Display) and one clean sans-serif for dates and captions (Montserrat, Lato).
Adding Effects and Overlays
Soft vignettes, bokeh overlays, and floral borders can add elegance. Keep effects subtle — the photographs are the product, not the effects. Use Low Opacity (10–25%) layer effects to add texture without overpowering images.
Wedding album design is a core module in CIMT's Graphic Design Mastery Program in Kochi, taught with real client projects from Camrin Films.
